This course provides training in the use of bat detectors and the interpretation of the resulting data. It includes a comprehensive introduction to bat echolocation, instruction on the basic theory behind bat detector technology, what equipment is currently available and the identification of bats using recordings of their calls.
This is followed by an evening field visit putting theory into practice by observing and recording bats at a site which hosts six different species, including Greater and Lesser Horseshoes.
